Shane Brennan graduated as a scholar from The Royal College of Music, and on doing so, he was awarded the Herbert Samuel Memorial prize for trumpet. He currently works as a trumpet soloist, chamber, orchestral and session musician. Shane started to play the cornet at the age of 6, and soon after was introduced to the Hadstock Silver Band. He worked his way to the principal position of the youth band, and was soon crowned the under 10 solo champion of East Anglia. After 3 years Shane was moved into the senior band, where he worked his way to the principal chair aged just 12. During this time, Shane won numerous awards and prizes with the band. Brass bands continued to play a large part in Shane's training at the RCM as he played soprano cornet for the championship section band Zone One Brass, performing at venues such as The Royal Albert Hall.
Shane attended Saffron Walden County High School where he was taught by Paul Mayes. It was Paul who introduced Shane to the Haverhill Silver Band where he was appointed the flugelhorn position, and was regularly featured as a soloist. During this same time, Shane won the Glyn Lewis Bursary. This bursary funded the trumpet that Shane still plays on today.
From London's Royal Albert Hall, to The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Shane has performed with the following orchestras and ensembles; Britten Sinfonia, The London Concert Orchestra, Brandenburg Sinfonia, London Soloists, The British Philharmonic Orchestra, The London Mozart Players, Sinfonia ViVA, The English Baroque Soloists, Arts Symphonic, The Symphony Orchestra of India, The London Banqueting Ensemble and The Octandre Ensemble.
As well as playing in a multitude of orchestras and ensembles in and around London, Shane has also played in many West-End shows. These include; Song and Dance (UK Tour), West Side Story (Cyprus), Crazy For You (The London Palladium), Merrily We Roll Along (The Harold Pinter Theatre), Soul Sister (UK Tour) and Top Hat (UK Tour).
As a soloist, Shane made his international concerto debut in Switzerland, where he performed Vivaldi's Concerto For Two Trumpets with The Zurich Chamber Orchestra. He has also performed both the Hummel and Haydn trumpet concerti, as well as leading masterclasses and solo recitals in the UK - most notably at St. Martin-in-the-Fields. Shane can regularly be heard performing as a featured soloist at dinner functions in the City of London with The London Banqueting Ensemble, in the presence of Royalty, dignitaries and world leaders.
Shane has performed with many leading groups and artists from many musical genres. These include playing live on Capital Radio with leading pop/rock group The Hoosiers and appearing in the video for X-Factor winner Leon Jackson's single Creative. After a successful tour in 2009 with the legendary English folk band Brass Monkey, Shane was delighted to be appointed as a member of the group. The band continue to record and tour, including the release of Brass Monkey: The Best Of Live. Shane also regularly appears with Home Service in their live shows.
As a session musician, Shane has recorded for Film, Radio and TV at all of the major recording studios, including; Abbey Road, Angel, AIR Lyndhurst, British Grove and Pinewood. Session work to date includes; Everest, Kubo and the Two Strings, My Bakery In Brooklyn, John Kirkpatrick: Tunes From The Trenches, Rebecca Dale: When Music Sounds, Benjamin Wallfisch: Peter Pan, David Willcocks: Choral Music, Clara Sanabras: A Hum About Mine Ears, England Rugby Animation: Make Them Giants, Dan Locklair: Sacred Choral Works, O2 Network TV Advert and a re-recording of the iconic UEFA Champions League Theme.
Another ongoing project of Shane's is his solo crossover music. He has been working closely with the arranger Paul Campbell and musical director Paul Archibald in recording the trumpet as a solo instrument with the backing of a full orchestra and rhythm section.
